New test facility at Risø

Researchers and businesses can now test new technologies across energy sources.

With the inauguration of the new test facility, Risø Hybrid Power Plant, DTU adds another central research and test facility to Risø. The hybrid power plant, which combines several renewable energy sources and ways of storing energy, initially consists of two photovoltaic systems, two wind turbines, a high-capacity storage battery and an advanced interface to the power grid.

The research facility is a key contribution to DTU's research into a more sustainable energy supply and an important tool for developing and testing new technologies before they are scaled up. The test facility is open for tests conducted by research projects from both universities and companies that can test production, storage and control across energy sources.

"The new facility will be an important part of developing and testing new technologies before they are scaled up for use in commercial hybrid power plants. This makes the test facility a useful tool in the work to ensure 100% green energy," says DTU researcher Dr. Gregor Giebel, who leads the DTEC collaboration.

The hybrid power plant is an element of the research and development collaboration in the DTU-TotalEnergies Excellence Center for Clean Energy (DTEC), which was established in 2022.
