Aero- and Fluid Dynamics

Design of advanced rotors and wind farms

The Aero- and Fluid Dynamics section focuses on research in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and aero-acoustics to improve the competitiveness of the wind energy industry. The group focuses on topics related to wind turbines and wind farms, with a primary emphasis on the development, verification, and validation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Aero-acoustics (CAA) tools. Their skills include optimization of aerodynamic designs, and addressing noise and safety issues in wind turbine operations.

There are many industrial applications of the Aero- and Fluid Dynamics research. Their tools find extensive application in the analysis, design, and operation of wind turbines and wind farms. These tools enable accurate simulation and optimization of complex flows, including the layout of wind farms in complex terrains, enhancing the efficiency and performance of wind energy systems.
