Workshop and sparring partner
Mechanical Workshop Risø (MVR) is a forging and machine workshop that performs workshop tasks with strong professional skills and latest machine technologies, – all the way from quite simple tasks to more complex development projects. The basic mission is to create value for DTU and DTU’s partners, and the workshop has a central role in the manufacture of components for instrumental research at DTU. The workshop also performs tasks for DTU spin-out companies with more commercial purposes that originate from the research.
MVR has updated and reliable machine tools as well as well-trained employees with extensive experience in carrying out and handling the challenges that arise in connection with the manufacture of components for research equipment, development tasks and prototypes.
MVR’s research technicians are happy to participate in a direct dialogue and sparring with researchers and students about a given task, in order to improve and develop the design for the optimal solution in terms of functionality and economy.
The focus is centered around the goal achievement complementary in relation to the project owner and participants, and MVR contributes with competencies that, in addition to the production of 3D files (CAD) and programming (CAM), consist of a qualified machine park with 10 CNC-controlled machine tools, a Zeiss coordinate measuring machine, a forging department for welding and bending tasks, a prototype lab with 3D printers, as well as painting and lead casting facilities.
Part of DTU Physics
Organizationally, the workshop belongs to DTU Physics, which in addition to the workshop at Risø Campus also facilitates a workshop at Lyngby Campus. Both workshops are important for DTU’s research and innovation activities, and there is a naturally close collaboration between these two units.
